LIVELIHOOD

Ansuiya lives in Surani village, Dewas district, Madhya Pradesh. Two years back her husband passed away all of a sudden. Her husband was the only earning member and Ansuiya had no idea how to manage without him. Life became difficult as she not only had to earn a living for herself but also had to take care of her three young children. She was totally unprepared for such a responsibility. Being an introvert, she had very low confidence and was financially very vulnerable. She realised soon that being a widow was not the end to her life, and in order to fight against all odds she needed to change her circumstances.

Having understood that she needs to move on in life, she started working as a daily wage laborer and was able to earn 150-200 per day. As she was trying to develop herself and improve her condition, she got connected to the W+W programme implemented by CARE India.

Through this program she learned how to how to communicate effectively and save and manage her time well. She also learnt about the importance of WASH and how to solve her problems. Once she became a member of a Self Help Group(SHG) she slowly started doing small savings. Her children now go to school regularly.

Support from W+W, not only made her confident but also equipped her to battle against all odds. These sessions enabled her to manage her household activities efficiently and now she is able to improve her quality of life and learn to overcome challenges. Ansuiya now does not miss any session and is also willing to forgo her wage for the sessions. She has also made plans to acquire new skills to get a better wage and is looking at options to work from home.

Ansuiya feels that she has brought significant positive changes in herself and is now confident that she will be able to provide well for her family. She believes that life must go on. With her renewed confidence she is now able to overstep the boundaries that limited her and now aspires to fulfill the dreams of her late husband.
