Agriculture is an engine of growth and poverty reduction in countries where it is the main occupation of the poor, it is the backbone of the Indian economy. But agricultural activity continues with fully dependent on the weather. There are several states of India which are facing a severe drought and water scarcity. The most immediate consequence of drought is a fall in crop production, due to inadequate and poorly distributed rainfall. Farmers are faced with harvests that are too small to both feed their families and fulfil their other commitments.

Women make up more than a third of India’s agriculture workforce. Empowered women in drought-hit areas take up farming to ensure their families have enough to eat and their kids can go to school.

CARE India builds the capacity of women farmers through providing agricultural implements, irrigation tools and pumping sets to create sustainable livelihoods.

Your contribution can make our farmers self-sufficient and happy.
