Provide immediate relief assistance to disaster affected communities and respond to the calamity through recovery and rehabilitation initiatives to secure their long-term development.

CARE India’s Relief & Response initiative aims to meet the immediate needs of disaster affected people in the areas of emergency shelter, safe drinking water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), livelihood & food security, and sexual & reproductive Health (SRH). A greater focus is laid upon marginalised households and women & girls, as they are the most vulnerable sections of the society.

Programmes

Covid-19 Response

CARE India provided immediate support and relief to the frontline workers and marginalised communities that had been hit the hardest by the pandemic. The aid was provided in multiple areas including protective gear like PPE kits and masks, and food supplies like dry ration kits.

Kerala Flood Response and Recovery Initiative

Immediate response to the destruction and loss caused by the flooding and landslides in Idukki and Wayanad. Distribution of relief kits, repair of wells, shelters, and community centres, was promptly conducted. People were trained on disaster resilient construction to avoid similar destruction in future.

Maharashtra Flood Response

Direct assistance through distribution of ration kits, building of emergency shelters, arranging safe drinking water, safe sanitation, and household hygiene items along with reclamation of farmlands. Greater emphasis was laid on providing relief to worst affected households and marginalised communities.

Cyclone Yaas 2021

Responding to the severely affected district of Balasore, Odisha, CARE India reached out to the most marginalised sections that were displaced due to the cyclone. Relief kits were immediately dispatched, and awareness activities were conducted on WASH – safe water, sanitation, and hygiene practices.
