CARE started the Integrated Family Health Initiative (IFHI) in 2011 as part of the Ananya program with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF). CARE designed IFHI to support the Government of Bihar (GoB) in improving maternal, new-born, and child health and nutrition outcomes through better availability, quality, and uptake of key family health services and to build leadership and ownership of these services by 2015. IFHI piloted many core solutions and innovations across 137 blocks of eight focus districts – Patna, Samastipur, Begusarai, Khagaria, Gopalganj, East Champaran and West Champaran – during the first phase (January 2011 to December 2013).
