As per a recent UN report, India recorded 24,000 maternal deaths in 2020.
Although we have come a long way in improving the care of mothers during pregnancy and in the post-natal period, there are marginalised women still struggling to take better care of themselves. Challenges arise due to the economic barriers which can lead to adverse situations like infections after delivery, long recovery time due to poor nutrition during the last trimester and during the post-natal period, difficulties in breastfeeding and others.
CARE India urges everyone to lend a helping hand in the last-mile delivery of adequate nutrition to pregnant and lactating mothers. Our different programmes offer counseling support and distribute nutritious food baskets and resources.
Key interventions:
- Consumption of nutrition food supplements and sanitary resources
- Maternal anemia: IFA – supply chain, distribution, consumption compliances
- Promotion of Breastfeeding: Timely initiation, exclusive and continued breastfeeding
- Handwashing promotion
With your support, we aim to address malnutrition by reaching 22,294 pregnant women and 60,093 lactating mothers.
