Clean and Environment-Friendly Cooking Solutions for Urban Slum/Village Dwellers

Helping marginalised women transition to improved cookstoves

This project aims to provide clean cooking solutions to urban slum/village dwellers. The initiative works to promote the sustainable and participatory adoption of Improved Cook Stove (ICS) as clean energy and environment-friendly solution among households in two slum clusters/villages in Gautam Buddh Nagar District. CARE India is undertaking this project with the support of the HCL Foundation.

Activities

  • Capacitating 17,500 individuals from 3500 SVDH to adopt ICS as a clean energy option.
  • Developing an enabling and supportive environment for women and their households to make clean energy transition by reaching out to 12,500 individuals.

Learnings

  • The initiative showed the way forward in developing sustainable solutions in clean cooking that can be owned and adopted by the slum/villages-based communities and associated stakeholders and be scalable and replicable across similar slum settlements/villages across India.
